There is a whole sub genre devoted to turning our expectations about knights and dragons on their heads. In this case, the knight is married and not very romantic towards his wife. He is in a hurry to get out and slay the latest dragon in the kingdom. Protecting the kingdom is, after all, his job.
Perhaps, though, he should take the time to smell the roses.
