"The Last Question" Short Story Review

Genre: Science Fiction
Word Count: 4,400 approx.

This is one of my favourite SF stories. Although the question being asked is a sad one, the people seem to have happy lives with their wonderful computers which understand and try to answer the question. Can entropy be reversed? Can the stars be remade? I like the computer's answer, and I give nothing away by quoting it: "Insufficient data for meaningful answer." It is an answer worth keeping in mind when faced with many of science's, and life's, questions.

The final answer also has charm. It suits the scale of the story, and gives it a conclusion that is both wry and hopeful.

Read it here.
