Szo's struggle to survive in the colony of another world is a dark one of drugs and a trade in flesh. Space travel and diseases sometimes leave people alive, but mindless. Szo has a an ability to turn those minds, making the bodies into useful slaves, at least. This is called turning the apples. The question is whether Szo is acting just as mindlessly as the apples and the thugs around him, or whether he can make a choice and a difference.
