"Angel of Light" short story review

Joe Haldeman is well known for his SF stories, particularly his novel The Forever War. Often, his stories have been from the point of view of soldiers and his theme has been the pointlessness of the wars they are in.

"Angel of Light" published in Expanded Horizons #1, is a much gentler tale. Here, a "Chrislam" man finds an ancient copy of an SF magazine. In just a little over 3,000 words, Haldeman conveys a future history of the world, the narrator's view of the past, and a beautiful sense that he in no way sees his world as the future in relation to the stories in the magazine.
